Exchange Street sponsors Olympic hopeful!
Katie is a member of Sale Harriers, and she is currently ranked 2nd in the UK in the women’s pole vault. She is only 18 and has made huge progress this year - she recently jumped 4.52m, which is the 3rd highest vault ever jumped by an athlete in the world aged under 20. She was picked for the UK senior team for the first time last week when she competed at the World Athletic Indoor Championship in Turkey, where her training partner Holly Bleasdale won the bronze.
Holly is a real medal prospect for the Olympics, and Katie is already jumping higher than Holly was last year so if she keeps up her current rate of progress she should be competing with the best in 2 years time.
Steve McNamee, Managing Director of Exchange Street said,
“Katie has a fantastic opportunity at her fingertips and it looks as though she is determined not to let it slip away. If she gets selected for the Olympics then I hope that she’ll get as much out of it as Daley Thompson did in 1976 at the age of 18, and goes on to develop in the same way that he did! I’m really pleased that we can help such a talented young local athlete, and I’m sure that this is just the start of a fantastic journey for her at the senior level. Best wishes for a hugely successful 2012! “
