Seasame top the list yet again with a turnover of £448,000,000, followed by St James’s Place (£358,900,000), Brewin Dolphin (£251,000,000) and Openwork (£250,000). Hargreaves Lansdown climb 33 places to 5th with the other big movers being JM Finn (from 55th to 15th) and Investors Planning Associates (16th from 94th).

An analysis of posted turnovers reveal few clues to the strength of the industry over the past twelve months, with the major networks split between stability, slight growth and slight contraction. The larger practices offer a similarly mixed picture, with a number posting increases, but a similar number have seen their turnovers fall. Given the economic climate, the changes firms have to make ahead of the Retail Distribution Review and the amount of acquisitions taking place, this is perhaps not surprising.

As noted last year the number of firms who have a substantial amount of fees as part of their overall income remains negligible, although four of the top eleven do take at least 51% of their income via fees, a marked improvement on 2010, when only two firms did. It is this, and adviser numbers, that will be of interest when the 2012 result is announced in October of next year.

I experienced how an energetic and driven recruitment professional should behave. They took the time to explain each of the roles, why they would be suitable and always kept me up to date with the progress of each.
