My client is an international specialist insurer with a superb reputation in the Insurance marketplace. Through continued profitable growth and expansion an exciting position has now arisen at their Manchester office for a Development Underwriter.

The main focus of this role is to underwrite and develop new business opportunities with brokers in Professional Indemnity, combined and liability business. You will be tasked with building new relationships and maintaining existing business. This a pure trading role and you will be expected to work externally and internally within Manchester. The emphasis will be on Professional Indemnity underwriting and preferred candidates will have a successful track record in P.I underwriting. However as an alternative my client is also keen to see candidates with a combined background with a good understanding of professional indemnity. Full technical training will be on offer to ensure the successful candidate will be up to speed with their products.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills, a confident manner when dealing with Brokers and the ability to assess risk and trade with Brokers to ensure a profitable agreement is reached. You will work with a highly skilled team in Manchester, so you must work well in a team as well as being effective working on your own initiative. ACII qualification is an advantage, but not essential.

Your technical skills will be strong and you will have indepth knowledge of Professional Indemnity and relevant markets and be known to brokers. This role is autonomous and your approach will need to be flexible when looking at risks and look to identify ways of writing business in accordance with my clients limits of acceptance. You will be working within the North West and as mentioned earlier there will be exposure to commercial combined and liability business. Therefore this role could be perfect for a PI Development Underwriter who would like to expand their technical skills in other classes of business.
